Past Work in Latino/Hispanic Health:
U.S.: Dr. Escoffery has worked with Latino populations in community, clinical, and migrant health settings. She has worked with the Latino population indirectly through practicum, Global Field Experiences, and thesis mentorship. She has also worked indirectly with Latino serving community partners in her community needs assessments course and community based research.
Latin America: Dr. Escoffery has worked on programs to increase cancer screening in Latin America.
Current Work in Latino/Hispanic Health:
Dr. Escoffery often partners with Latino serving community organizations in the community needs assessment course that she teaches. In this course, students have the opportunity to conduct a needs assessment or data for various community organizations. In addition, she researches cancer prevention and control among various underserved communities including Latinos. She is conducting an evaluation of special events such as health fairs to promote cancer screening nationally and with Latinos in Texas.
Opportunities for Students:
Dr. Escoffery has advised students in Global Field Experiences and thesis projects relating to various health issues in Latin America. In the past, she has mentored student research on cancer screening in El Salvador. Dr. Escoffery also offers the opportunity for doctoral students to work on community needs assessment projects and assist graduate level students with thesis research.
