Current Work in Hispanic/Latino Health:

Projects: In addition to HolaDoctor, Dr. Schroeder has been working to develop a Spanish version of LifeHealth Online and working with National Hispanic Medical Association to staff doctors. More recently in Latin America, Dr. Schroeder has been working to provide access to health and wellness program that are currently being evaluated such as health management programs and diabetes management programs in Mexico.

Past Work in Hispanic/Latino Health:

U.S.: Dr. Schroeder has served as the Chair of Strategy Committee for the Board of the Hispanic Health Coalition of Georgia. In 1999, Dr. Schroeder Co-founded HolaDoctor(formally known as Dr. Tango). He currently serves as the Chief Health Officer and Executive Vice President of HolaDoctor, now the largest Spanish language health website in the world with fifty percent of the website's viewers coming from outside the United States. The purpose of HolaDoctor is to:

  • Research and provide strategic consulting on how to improve the health of Hispanics through large health plans and large health providers;
  • Educate Hispanics about the Affordable Care Act with the use of promotoras, grassroots marketing, and educational programs;
  • Develop Affordable Care Act /Exchange strategies;
  • Understand newly insured Latinos;
  • Focus on Diabetes/Chronic Disease research, and work with Wellstar piloting a program and implementing technology

Latin America: Prior to HolaDoctor, Dr. Schroeder worked on his a doctorate in Guatemala researching child health, child nutrition, and improved child feeding. In addition, Dr. Schroeder worked on longitudinal studies and chronic disease and well as projects in Mexico with other faculty at Emory such as Dr. Ramakrishnan and Dr. Martorell.

Opportunities for Students

Dr. Schroeder advises students working on master's theses and often mentors public health students on research related to his area of study. For example, Dr. Schroeder has mentored students writing on health care access and coverage, health care utilization, health and wellness (diet-fitness), among U.S Latinos. In addition, Dr. Schroeder has assisted students writing masters theses on the effectiveness of mobile apps for diabetes programs targeting U.S Latinos. Dr. Schroeder continues to collaborate with students in his research. In the past, he has hired Rollins School of Public Health graduates through REAL.
