Shella Farooki

Track: Applied Public Health Informatics

What is your professional background and where do you currently work?

I am currently self-employed as a teleradiologist, practicing from my home office. I have been in practice for over 10 years and specialize in musculoskeletal MRI.

Why did you enroll in the EMPH program?

I wanted to get a different perspective on health care and to develop the skill set necessary to pursue a non-clinical career in the future.

How has earning an MPH degree affected your career path?

I have more options to transition out of clinical medicine now that I have my MPH. I did not pursue an MBA because I am not as interested in finance or administration but rather the public health informatics field.

What is the most valuable skill you learned during the EMPH program?

Project management and the business side of public health were both new to me and transformed my perception and views.

What is your favorite memory from the EMPH program?

Jon Lipsky arranged a tour of the CDC for our class at our closing session for project management. We were able to see areas that are closed to the public. It was a lot of fun and very interesting.
