Students earning the online MPH at Rollins

Earn Your MPH Online

You will view and complete all online lessons through software called Blackboard—a course management software compatible with both Microsoft Windows and Apple operating systems. To log in, you will need to enter your user ID and password (you will receive instructions about your user ID when you receive your Emory acceptance email).

This is where you will log in to access lecture materials, submit assignments, take quizzes, and communicate with the instructor and your classmates. Classes are all instructor-led, not auto-tutorial or self-study. All students in a course engage in a course in the same time frame, but not necessarily at the same moment.

If you have any problems using Blackboard, you can ask program administrators for help, or can refer to our online learning tutorial or read Blackboard's student help site.

Technology Requirements

All EMPH students are required to have high-speed Internet access, a computer, and a printer. An iPad or similar device does not provide the needed functionality for the EMPH program. Note that you may periodically need to install plug-ins or specialized browsers, so make sure you have the appropriate permissions to download software on your computer.

Some courses require additional software that is only available in the Microsoft Windows platform. Emory University provides support for the Microsoft Windows platform, limited support for the Apple Macintosh platform, and no support for Linux. Visit Rollins' IT website for more details »

Laptop Computer Requirements

It is required that students have access to a laptop in order to properly connect to RSPH's technology resources. The Office of Information Technology requires students to have access to a laptop in order to take advantage of web-based software and wireless resources. Many of the courses taught at the Rollins School of Public Health require computer use. You will learn to use software such as EpiInfo and SAS during the course of your study. Having a laptop also enables you to be able to connect to the Internet and the RSPH network wirelessly.

Borrowing a Laptop

Robert W. Woodruff Library

Current Emory students, faculty and staff can check out laptops from the Music & Media Library circulation desk on level 4 of the Robert W. Woodruff Library during regular library hours. They offer both PCs and Macs and their corresponding power adaptors.

Please visit the Woodruff Library Website to review their policies.

Woodruff Health Sciences Library

The Woodruff Health Sciences Library also offers a similar borrowing system. Laptops are available to be borrowed for in-house use only and the checkout period is 2 hours.

Please visit the Health Sciences Library Website for more information.
