CMPH Letter to Prospective Students
Welcome to the future: Career MPH!
Welcome to a very unique program in the Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University - the Career
Masters in Public
Health Program. The CMPH program is on the cutting edge of technology and learning as the only
distance-learning program of
Emory University.
CMPH was created to assist public health professionals who desired to further their education and training in
the field of
public health by obtaining a master's in public health degree. The program was designed so that working
professionals with
5-10 years of experience could maintain their employment while pursuing the master's in public health degree
in a distance
format.
CMPH has a yearly cohort entering each fall with campus meetings two times per semester over a three-day
period (usually
Friday-Sunday). On campus sessions give us a chance to see each other face to face, attend classes in a
traditional format
and to take advantage of campus resources and the great city of Atlanta!
All other work is completed utilizing the online software-Blackboard. The students in the program are
professionals and
represent an array of disciplines including, public health advisors, medical doctors, government officials,
researchers,
nurses etc. Diversity is our strength. We have students who come from different states in the U.S., Canada,
the Virgin
Islands, the Caribbean and Hawaii. Imagine attending class from the comfort of your home with classmates who
are in Hawaii,
Antigua and Toronto!
The CMPH curriculum encompasses the ten core competencies of public health and option courses in prevention,
healthcare outcomes and most recently maternal and child health epidemiology. Although it is a distance
program, the
courses are very challenging. Instructors utilize a variety of teaching methods that are unique to the online
environment.
The best aspect of our program is our fellow students. As an online community, we have forged new friendships
both
personal and professional. Having access to a wide variety of practicing public health professionals enriches
the
Career MPH experience. Now is the best time to pursue a degree in Public Health. So, welcome to our program
as you
become part of our virtual family!
