Selected Research Projects:

|
I am engaged in research on the epidemiology of waterborne disease with an emphasis on household water quality, transmission of enteric waterborne pathogens, and the impacts of climate on the incidence of waterborne disease.
Current research projects include:
(1) a study the contributions of village-level animal husbandry operations to the evolution and spread of antibiotic resistance in northern coastal Ecuador, funded by the NSF Ecology of Infectious Diseases program
[collaboration with colleagues from University of Michigan]
(2) a long-term (10 year) study of diarrheal disease transmission in northern coastal Ecuador, funded by NIAID, with a specific focus on climate and diarrheal disease, funded by the NIH Fogarty International Center (see http://www.fic.nih.gov/News/Pages/2011-climate-change-diarrheal.aspx)
[collaboration with colleagues from University of Michigan]
(3) a study investigating linkages between Atlanta’s water distribution system and hospital emergency room admissions for gastrointestinal illness, funded by the US EPA and the Water Research Foundation
[collaboration with colleagues from Emory RSPH]
(4) a study of methods for testing irrigation water quality in southern Georgia, funded by the Center for Produce Safety
[collaboration with colleagues from University of Georgia]
