Dr. Gaudet is a cancer epidemiologist with primary interests in genetic susceptibility, hormonal pathways, and the etiology and prognosis of breast and endometrial cancers. She has evaluated the role of genetic variation in relationship to cancer risk using candidate and genome-wide approaches in high risk and general populations. She is also conducting research in biological mechanisms mediating the association between breast and endometrial cancer and energy imbalance, including sex steroid hormones, insulin/insulin growth factor-axis, adipokines, and metabolomic profiles. By examining both serum markers and genetic variants in these pathways, she is utilizing a comprehensive approach to determine how energy imbalance relates to cancers of the breast and endometrium in several large prospective and case-control studies. Aberrations in these pathways may alter expression of important oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes leading to cancer initiation and progression.
