The Department of Health Policy and Management offers three distinct master's degrees: MPH in Health Services Management, MPH in Health Policy, and MSPH in Health Services Research.
The MPH curriculum in the Management track is designed for students interested in building a leadership career for the delivery of healthcare services. Students will obtain a broad set of practical skills suitable for success as healthcare managers and policy analysts. The MPH curriculum in the Management track is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of the managerial skills needed in the healthcare industry.
This program is offered in 12-month and 24-month models.
Students complete their studies with "capstone courses" which bring together the practical skills learned throughout their coursework. The MPH degree requires 42 credit hours to graduate, including school-wide core course requirements in the different public health disciplines and a practicum training experience.

CLASSROOM KNOWLEDGE | PROFESSIONAL SETTING
All students who are admitted to the Department of Health Policy & Management must complete a practicum in order to graduate from the MPH program. The practicum consists of a minimum of 200 hours. It is organized around specific projects designed to meet the career objectives of the student. The practicum experience allows students to apply classroom knowledge in the professional practice setting.
Practice experiences may be arranged in a variety of settings from advocacy groups, to medical care delivery organizations, to municipal and state health departments, and to federal agencies such as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The schedule for completing the practicum is flexible. The practicum can be completed in one semester or spread over two or more semesters. All students are encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities available to gain additional practical experience while at the RSPH.
How many credits are required?
The MPH in Health Services Management requires 42 credit hours. These credits may be completed in either a 12 month or 24 month sequence.
Is a certain academic background required for admission?
Students in the program come from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds. Some are mid-career professionals who have considerable experience as providers, managers, or policy makers. Some are more recent graduates from a variety of academic backgrounds with a minimum of health-related work experience.
We do not have specific GPA or GRE score requirements. However, the program is competitive and we look for strong applicants.
What types of jobs do graduates with an MPH in Management typically pursue?
Students graduating with the MPH degree are well qualified to practice as managers in the private healthcare industry.
How large is the cohort for this program?
Although it varies each year, there are approximately 40 in the MPH Management track each year.
