Other Relevant Information
Dual degree applicants must complete each of these requirements for RSPH as well as the full application process for the school that houses the second degree of choice. Internal MD/MPH students, however, do not apply through SOPHAS. External MD/MPH students must already be enrolled in an accredited medical school and should apply through SOPHAS.
Complete and Verified Application with SOPHAS
RSPH will only receive complete (except test scores and international transcripts) and verified applications from SOPHAS. Please note: the SOPHAS verification process begins once the application and supporting documentation has been submitted to SOPHAS and marked as complete in the SOPHAS system. Please allow ample time for your documents to reach SOPHAS and up to 6 weeks for processing of materials once they have received all documents. The SOPHAS application may be used by degree-seeking MPH and MSPH applicants only. MD/MPH dual-degree program applicants should contact the RSPH Office of Admissions, admit@sph.emory.edu. Applicants to the PhD programs should apply through the Laney Graduate School.Transcripts
Official transcripts (documents with original dean′s, registrar′s or appropriate authority′s original signature and/or university seal on official paper in sealed envelope) must be received by SOPHAS from each post-secondary academic institution attended, regardless of length of enrollment or credit awarded. SOPHAS will only accept transcripts sent directly from the schools attended.
International Transcripts
Individuals submitting transcript(s) from an academic institution that is outside the U. S. should make their transcript requests well in advance of the application deadline. This requirement does not apply to coursework completed as a part of a study abroad program. International transcripts must be submitted to World Education Services (WES) for an official course-by-course credential evaluation (document-by-document evaluations will not suffice). Applicants who attended Canadian schools should contact the office of admissions before submitting transcripts.
All WES evaluations are to be received by SOPHAS direclty from WES. Applicants submitting WES Credential Evaluations are urged to first create the SOPHAS application. Once applicants have their 11 digit SOPHAS ID they will be able to use the special WES online application form available here to order their evaluation from WES. Applicants whose degree is in process at the time the WES evaluation is completed will be required to submit a final WES evaluation documenting the receipt of the degree. Remember that all applicants must have the equivalent of a U.S. 4 year bachelor′s degree.
Note: Applicants whose academic training was not in the U.S., but who are in the U.S. at the time the application is submitted MUST adhere to all requirements as outlined for international students.
Two Letters of Recommendation
SOPHAS requires three recommenders in order to submit the online application. However, once two recommendations are received by SOPHAS, your application will be forwarded to RSPH for review, granted all other materials have also been completed and verified. The third recommendation will be forwarded to RSPH upon receipt. RSPH prefers references from an undergraduate/graduate advisor, faculty in the major field of study and/or a recent employer. Professional colleagues are acceptable as a third reference, although those listed above are preferred by RSPH.
Standardized Test Scores
In general, all applicants (US and Non-US) are required to submit test scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Test scores submitted may not be more than five (5) Years old. Read through the Emory-RSPH profile for details regarding test substitutions by RSPH degree program. Waivers are granted for some students who have completed doctoral level degrees. This varies by program. Please see the Emory-RSPH profile for additional information.
Note: Applicants who have applied to more than one program must meet the test score requirements for ALL programs selected.
RSPH requests that students choose the GRE Institution/Department Code for Emory University, Rollins School of Public Health. If submitting scores for the GMAT, LSAT or MCAT, please forward scores directly to the RSPH Office of Admissions. Photocopies are accepted to expedite the review of the application. Photocopies are not a substitute for an official score report sent directly from the testing agency (i.e. ETS to the Rollins School of Public Health), except for printed score reports from the MCAT. Printouts of MCAT scores will be verified through the AMCAS, MCAT website by the Rollins School of Public Health admissions staff.
