All financial obligations to the university must be satisfied prior to graduation. In the case of outstanding loans not then due and payable, loan documents satisfactory to the university must have been executed and delivered to it and all payments must be current.
All students in the traditional or accelerated degree program plans are responsible for the total tuition of their program (semesters x semester rate). During summer semesters, the hourly rate applies when students take additional coursework above and beyond the 3 or 4 semester program plans and enroll in 8 credit hours or less.
If a student extends his/her studies beyond the determined degree plan time (ie a 5th semester to complete a 4 semester degree plan), tuition will be charged at the prevailing individual credit rate up to 9 hours. Nine or more hours will be assessed at the prevailing flat-tuition rate.
If a student changes their degree plan from MSPH to MPH or from the three-semester accelerated plan to the four-semester traditional plan, the tuition charge will be the rate of current enrollment with no accommodation for previous tuition payments.
Financial aid information is available through the Emory University Financial Aid Office. The Emory University Office of Financial Aid coordinates the need-based financial packages for all incoming and currently enrolled students, including all federal loans. The Office of Financial Aid can be reached at 404-727-6039. This office also administers federal work-study awards, assists students in obtaining private student loans, and administers certain need-based awards for public health students. Among these are the Lettie Pate Whitehead Award, the Hinson Award, and the Lupton Award.
With the conversion to the Federal Direct Loan Borrowing Program, there are new application requirements for returning students for 2010-2011. The Rollins School of Public Health (RSPH) Practical Experience Award provides funding for master's level public health students to support their academic interests with an applied public health experience. Student work opportunities are an integral part of the RSPH experience. Each year, over 400 students find public health work opportunities with agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CARE, American Cancer Society, The Carter Center, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and other local agencies while pursuing advanced studies. Additionally, many students find opportunities working on faculty research grants within the Rollins School of Public Health and throughout the Emory University/Emory Healthcare systems. These experiences may fulfill practicum requirements and lead to thesis opportunities.
Eligibility for this award is based on need as determined by the FAFSA and availability of funds. Students must remain in good academic standing and be full-time/degree seeking to receive funding. Funds are earned and are paid directly to students through biweekly paychecks. The amount of the award is the maximum the student may earn for the academic year. Students typically work 10-20 hours per week. The wage for graduate students ranges from $12.00 per hour. Students may apply for positions through Emory's online system, Symplicity. Access to Symplicity will be provided to incoming students in early August, followed by a public health job fair during orientation.
Employers or students who would like to find out more about the program are encouraged to contact the Office of Student Services, admit@sph.emory.edu. Watch this space for additional information in the coming months.

Other opportunities exist for financial assistance through the academic departments and centers. For example, some faculty have extramural funding for research assistants. At times, funds are available for teaching assistants to help with courses offered in the school. Occasionally, paid internships have been offered through the school at local external agencies. When these opportunities are available, students are notified of the positions and the application process through the Career Services Department.
