In an effort to protect the computing environment from viruses, users are required to adhere to the following guidelines:
Do *NOT* read email from outside accounts on RSPH computers. This means avoid using accounts from Yahoo, MSN, AOL, Hotmail and the like. Using them circumvents our school's email virus scanner.
Do *NOT* turn the virus software off. If it is turned off, it cannot protect the computer.
DO *NOT* generally open attachments. Only open attachments when
If you are not sure about any of these points, then default to *NOT* opening the attachment. Instead, ask the sender if the attachment you received was legitimate. In other words, don't be quick to click!
Virus detection software is centrally managed, and desktops are scanned nightly. In the event that a virus, worm, or other malicious code has been identified, the machine will be disconnected from the network until the system has been appropriately cleaned. If the virus, worm, or other malicious code appears on more than a couple systems, an email will be sent to the school to remind them of the threats.
